Control your visuals with MIDI data from Traktor

Since version 3.5, Traktor comes with a special Controller Mapping for Volta, so you can control your Volta world while DJing. Follow these steps to set it up:

Pre-requisites

Mac

Enable IAC Driver

To send MIDI from one app to another on Macs, you can use the built-in IAC Driver. But you need to enable it manually. Here's how:

  1. Open Audio MIDI Setup by going to Applications/Utilities/Audio MIDI Setup or searching for it in Spotlight (Cmd+Space)
  2. If it's not open already, open the MIDI Studio view by going to Window>Show MIDI Studio or pressing Cmd+2
  3. Double-click the IAC Driver module
  4. Make sure the Device is online checkbox is checked

Windows

Install loopMIDI

To send MIDI from one application to another on your computer, you need extra software on Windows. You can get loopMIDI for free. Just download and install loopMIDI.

In Traktor

To set up the controller, do the following:

  1. Go to Settings > Controller Manager
  2. Click on Add... below the Device field and choose Import TSI > Volta Outputs
  3. Choose None for In-Port
  4. Choose virtual loopMIDI if you’re on Windows, or IAC Driver if you’re on Mac for Out-Port

In Volta

To use Traktor events on Volta, follow these steps:

  1. Open Settings and click on MIDI
  2. From the dropdown menu, select Traktor under Controller Mappings
  3. You can now affect elements in the Volta world with various Traktor events
  4. To see the available Traktor events, right-click on a Button, Toggle, or Slider in the Play Panel. Then, click on the 🎹 icon and select MIDI>Traktor.
